The Great Highland Bagpipe. Whether as a single instrument in the distance, or full compliment of drums, pipes and pageantry up close. Few instruments can stir the soul and rouse the blood inside us all, in quite the same way.
Of course, the personal enjoyment gained from this instrument which is rather rare in the local area. Along the way, if I can bring a smile or tear to another, honor to one who has served, or otherwise make an occasion special.. that's an added bonus. Then there is of course the matter of some spending money and getting to walk around in a kilt.. rewards in and of themselves I must say!
Simply put, I'm a individual who was raised around music, agriculture, Southern Baptist values including duty, honor, respect and responsibility in a small Arkansas community called Alicia. Having taken piano lessons, trumpet, baritone, tuba, and singing in several school and church choirs, music became pretty much relegated to CD's and loud stereo's.
Then, for some reason, I got curious, whether there were any pipers in the area. I found there were, determined when and where they practiced, and before long had a practice chanter and was taking lessons on my first woodwind.
